Day 9
Breakfast: 2 Fried Eggs with Sweet Potato Hash
Lunch: Leftover Stir Fry.
Dinner: Leftover Soup - L was at Jeep Club and had a Salad with no blue cheese.
Reflections:
It's only 2:10 but I've been tired all day despite getting a good
night's sleep. I was also super nauseous this morning. Those eggs did
not want to stay down. I was tired all day and even almost took a nap at home.
Day 10
Breakfast: 2 Fried Eggs with Sweet Potato Hash
Lunch: Leftover Barbacoa with Sweet Poato Hash and Zucchini
Dinner: Meat Sauce over Brussels and Zucchini
Reflections: The eggs stayed down better, but still not well. I'm contemplating giving them up for a month after Whole30 to see what that does. I feel like my body is trying to tell me something! L still has ridiculous energy.
Day 11
Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs with Onion and Pepper and Sausage
Lunch: Leftover Meat Sauce with Brussels and Zucchini
Dinner: Burger with Sweet Potato Fries and Zucchini
Cheat: 1 Beer at Tyler's for Jimmy's Birthday
Reflections: The eggs went down better than they have all week. L is having a harder time waking up lately. He's usually wide awake when he opens his eyes, but not this week. I think its because he's actually sleeping deeply enough. I got a headache after dinner and took a nap before we went to Tyler's. I was expecting the beer to make me pretty loopy, and it did, but not as much as I was expecting. It also made my stomach a bit unsettled. I really wasn't jealous of anyone's food either, except for Coats' fried cheese curds!! YUM! It did however take me forever to fall asleep and I didn't sleep very well once I did.
Day 12
Breakfast: 2 Fried Eggs with Sweet Potato Hash
Lunch: Leftover Burger with Zucchini and Banana
Dinner: Chicken and Spinach Topped Sweet Potato
Reflections: I did not feel rested when I woke up this morning but now that I'm awake, I'm not feeling as groggy as I have most of the week. The eggs were also much better this morning. I am however, having certain symptoms of having gone on a binger last night. I don't feel bad but I'm having problems in my... ahhh.. in my lower gut, I guess?? Also, I skipped my Zyrtec the last two nights to see how my allergies were doing, but I woke up this morning with itchy palms and a welt on my forearm. :( Not sure if this diet is helping my particular allergies at all.

Whole30
L and I have decided to go on a diet. I was initially attracted to this diet because a lot of the people who complete the month see drastic reductions in their allergy symptoms. I've also been wanting to go on some sort of diet to loose some weight but they all seem so hokey to me. I like this particular diet because it is all backed by peer-review scientific literature and, after reading the companion book, it actually makes sense to my highly logical mind. The diet is called Whole30. The premise is basically that you shouldn't eat anything that messes with the psychology of food, your hormones, your digestion, and your inflammation/immune system. The diet runs for 30 days with NO cheating allowed (although we're allowing L a glass of beer per day). You aren't allow to eat grains, legumes, sugar (or artificial sweeteners), dairy, soy, carrageenan, MSG or sulfite, or white potatoes. We started the diet right after we got back from Nathan's wedding and will finish the day before we leave for the mountains for the Fourth of July. I want to keep a record of what we eat and how we feel throughout because apparently its a pretty interesting transition.
Day 1
Breakfast: 2/3 eggs, scrambled with onions and peppers; strawberries
Lunch: Salad with carrots, walnuts, chicken, dry cranberries, etc and balsamic vinegrette
Dinner: Roast Beef with Carrots and Green Beans
Reflections: It was really hard to judge Day 1 because of our exhaustion. Saturday night, we got about 3 hours of sleep between getting home from Adam's wedding and heading to the airport. Sunday, I think we were in bed by 1:30 or 2 and got up around 8-8:30. So, basically we just wanted to sleep all day. I think I was too tired to even worry about being hungry or anything.
Day 2
Breakfast: 2/3 eggs, scrambled with onions and peppers; homemade pork/turkey sausuage; strawberries
Lunch: Leftover roast beef, carrots, and green beans
Dinner: Cumin/Chili/Paprika/Garlic Pork Chops (cut from a pork loin) with zucchini and squash and sweet potatoes.
Reflections: Day 2 sucked for me. I got a migraine around 10am(!) and it didn't go away until I finally fell asleep around 10pm. I'm not sure whether our diet caused my migraine or something else entirely. It did rain most of the afternoon. L hasn't really had any trouble but he does miss snacking!
Day 3
Breakfast: Sweet Potato Hash with 2 fried eggs
Lunch: Leftover Pork Chops, Zucchini/Squash, and Sweet Potatoes
Dinner: Veggie Beef Soup
Reflections: Day 3 wasn't bad. I think we both stayed busy enough to not snack. We did, however, really want some crackers to go with our soup!
Day 4
Breakfast: Sweet Potato Hash with 2 fried eggs
Lunch: Leftover Soup
Dinner: Sweet Potato Shepard's Pie
Reflections: Well its only 2:40, but I'm feeling great!
